Shoot dragonflies with 840mm focal length? While waiting for a barred warbler that didn't show up, the dragonflies got my attention. So the camera that was ready for a warbler in the sunset had instead to immortalize a four-spotted chaser in backlight.
A bit shy. Early in the morning it was surprisingly difficult to find any damselflies, there are usually lots in the tufts of grass. This is one of the first to venture forth. A few hours later, in the middle of the day, they appeared everywhere, hundreds of dragonflies sitting in basically every tuft.
The morning was spent in the company of this larger red-eyed damselfly. The damselflies hid well before the sun rose, I only managed to find four dew-covered damselflies. This allowed me to devote all the more time to photograph each subject from different angles. To get the entire face in focus I had to do a handheld focus stack of six shots.
