Nuthatch in the spotlight

Many birds take the opportunity to forage In the low trees and shrub next to the parking lot at Södra Lunden, Ottenby, before continuing their migration south. Even in the middle of the day, there are plenty of good photo opportunities as the light is filtered through foliage and branches to form pleasantly diffused spotlights when it reaches ground level. Here it is a Eurasian Nuthatch (Sitta Europaea) that has stepped into the beam of light.

Blue tit and autumn colors

A common sight in the fall, a blue tit (Cyanistes Caeruleus) hanging in the food while eating.

Med solen på väg ner under horisonten började skäggmesarna visa upp sig fint i en öppning i vassen.

With the sun about to disappear below the horizon the bearded reedlings finally showed up at the edge of the reed belt.

'Fågel på pinne' - ett klassiskt motiv! Jag vet inte hur många gånger jag har fotat en variation på det temat. Men antagligen var det första gången som just den här blåmesen ställde upp som modell.

'Bird on a stick' - it's a classic! I don't know how many times I've photographed a variation on that theme. But it was probably the first time this blue tit was posing for a photographer.

Stjärtmesen är som en bomullstuss med stjärtfjädrar. Lätt att känna igen men inte helt enkel att fota då den helst rör sig i de lite risigare delarna av träden och gärna högt upp. Så när den stjärtmesen rörde sig i de lägre delarna av tallen framför mig gällde det att göra det bästa av situationen. En pinne som såg ut att sticka in i ryggen på fågeln fick tas bort i efterbehandlingen för att det inte skulle bli en väldigt tråkig version av 'bird on a stick'.

The long-tailed tit is like a cotton ball with tail feathers. Easy to recognize but not as easy to photograph as it prefers to move higher up inte in the trees and preferably where it is hidden by branches and sticks. So when this long-tailed tit moved amongst the lower branches of the pine in front of me I did what I could to make the best of the situation. A stick that appeared to be sticking into the bird's back had to be removed in post-processing to avoid yet another version of a 'bird on a stick' photo.
