Danger is lurking! As a parent, you can never relax. Though I tried to stay hidden, the pied avocet loudly protested my presence to make its hatchlings seek cover.
The dunlin will soon begin its autumn migration. But there is still time to spend a few more days enjoying the fine beaches on south-eastern Öland.
The evening before the rain. The dunlins forage eagerly in the mud and sludge at the beach. The sun hasn't set yet but the beach is in the shade, causing the sludge to take on a slightly purple tone.
