In autumn, the young shorebirds gather in flocks along Öland's coast. In the area around Ottenby, flocks of hundreds of shorebirds can move along the shore with incredible coordination in what may at first look like a totally chaotic cloud of birds. Parts of this flock of red knots could be isolated and with a long shutter speed, 1/20 second, I tried to capture the sense of movement in both the birds and the background.
The young wood sandpiper decides that it is better safe than sorry. Maybe I made a careless move that made it fly away?
The shorebirds on the beach is full of activity as the evening approaches. The sun is partly covered by clouds and the shoreline is about to end up in the shade, but it is important to use the light to feed.
