After many kilometers of hiking back and forth on Flatruet in search of dotterels, I finally gave up and went to Nipfjället were I got to enjoy this fancy male. Most of the time it lay in the nest and incubated its eggs, but it made two excursions to feed and that was short but good opportunities to photograph it.
It's cold, dark and the mosquitoes seem to be able to bite just about anywhere they like. It's almost two in the morning and it's another night without sleep. But who cares? Right in front of me, at least five great snipe display their peculiar lek among the tufts and bushes. An experience outside the ordinary!
Even though I have seen thousands of sunrises before, I can still enjoy them. For the newborn pied avocet who probably never seen a sun rise before there is no time to enjoy it. Better keep a watchful eye on the strange person the parents are yelling at instead!
