Sunset over the beach meadows on southern Öland. The light quickly becomes magical and with a little cautiousness you can get within photo distance of the brooding little tern without scaring it away. However, there is no doubt that it is aware of my presence!
The summer rain came suddenly and was very intense, only to disappear just as quickly. For the adult common tern the rain was no excuse to sit and relax, the young terns still needed a constant supply of fresh fish.
When the first rays of the sun reached the surface of the water, the lesser black-backed gull left the pond to take a look around. It must have realized that the pond with its fishes was the best place to look for food because it stayed put throughout the day.
