Under attack!

A bumblebee with mites on its back. Bumblebees are frequently attacked by mites at the end of the summer and the attackers can be so numerous that the bumblebee will no longer be able to fly. Although it is quite common it is not often seen in real life as the mites are small and the bumblebees are constantly moving. However, on a photo it is easier to see. This is a focus stacking of 38 photos

Snow covered ant

Spring had just arrived the last few days when winter returned for a few hours. This ant guarded the shadow side of the anthill all alone when it was surprised by the sudden snowfall and desperatly tried to stay above the snow cover. After finishing my photography, I thanked the ant for posing by lifting it to a non-snowcovered entrance into the anthill.

Post-apocalyptic ant

The anthill had just begun to wake up after the winter and the first frozen ants walked around. This picture was taken without a flash when the sun was descending below the horizon. The background with the bright sky that can be seen in the blur between the branches gave a fateful impression, so I reduced the color saturation in Lightroom to give the whole picture a post-apocalyptic feeling. I think the mood is strengthened by the low angle that causes the ant to look down on the viewer.

A temporary setback for the spring

This ant was caught in a heavy snowfall when it was working outside. Duty first, it continued its way to the spruce needle. It became a tough walk for a small ant. At the end of the photosession, I lifted the ant to one of the entrances to the ant hill that was not yet covered with snow. It didn't get the needle ...

The male northern bluet made sure to constantly keep the straw between us. It did not do him much good as concealment or to stop me from photographing him. This is three exposures combined in Helicon Focus for a greater depth of field.
