Sunset on a cold winters day. To get details in both the bright sky and in the darker ground, the sky and the ground in this image are from two photos taken at the same time but with different exposures. They are combined in photoshop with layer masks

Preparing for next season

Colorful hut

A small hut at the southern cape of Öland. It caught my eye as it was very colorful in the strong light. I had to subdue the red tones in postprocessing to keep them from taking over completely. A ND1000 filter was used to get the water in the foreground calm.

The pier in Skärlöv

The pier in the harbour of Skärlöv has seen better days. This day the sky was evenly grey, so that the sky almost seemed to seamlessly pass to the water. With all the boats on land for the winter the pier looks quite desolate. Two images taken with a ND1000 filter was used to create this final image

A stormy day by the sea in Grönhögen, southern Öland. A ND1000-filter was used to increase the exposure time and keep the sun from overexposing.

The gate

This gate can be found along the old railway embankment between Skärlöv and Kastlösa on southern Öland. The recent rain had created many bodies of water in the sinks and wheel tracks. Along with the clouds, they create a dramatic backdrop to this gate out to the limestone heath Alvaret.

Hahn's fishing hut

Milky way meets the northern lights

A colorful meeting between the milky way and the northern lights over Stora Alvaret at Skärlöv, Öland. The photo is a 3*2 panorama where each image is a stack of five photos to reduce noise. Each image was first noise reduced in DxO Optics Pro before being manually stacked in Photoshop. The panorama was then stitched in PTGui.

Tractor tracks leading up to the windmill in Skärlöv on southern Öland. No longer in use the, 352 windmills of the more than 2000 in active use 150 years ago still remain on the island

Snowy road

The road to Skärlöv harbour on southeastern Öland. After two days of intense wind and some snowfall the road was no longer passable as it has been both flooded by the sea and partially covered with the drifting snow

Steady as a rock!

Sunset over Kalmarsund. The wind has died down and the waves have subsided. To capture the motion of the water, an ND filter was used to get longer shutter speed and a separate exposure was taken for the sky.

While I was waiting for darkness to fall so that Orion would be visible above the lonely tree on the Schaeferi meadows, I took the opportunity to photograph the Långe Jan lighthouse as the beacon swept past my postion.
