Blue tit
In winter time many tits seek food in the reed bed. Especially blue tits can be found peeling off the outer layers of the reed straw as it looks for wintering insects.
Bearded readling
Normally, photos of bearded reedlings are of males with impressive mustaches. This is the more discreetly colored female in the species favourite habitat.
The lookout
Finding the best food source is all about knowing your surroundings. This great tit might be young, but it already learned the essentials for survival.

Stopover
The feeding station at Hjälstaviken is always frequented by small birds, especially tits. A stopover is often required just before the feeders to be sure to find a vacant spot. This blue tit thankfully landed on a sunlit part of the branch before quickly moving on to the sunflower seeds.
Early morning nuthatch
The hide for passerines in Villanueva del Fresno was called 'The hide of the nuthatch'. And it was indeed often visited by nuthatches that offered photo opportunities in exchange fot food and water.

Drinking pause
After eating the food for quite a while, finally a great tit decided to drink. The reflection in the calm water became sharp and the morning light filtered through the foliage gave the scene a warm light.

Nuthatch
Maybe the nuthatch can hear the cameras in the hide? Something caused it to take a long look in our direction before it dared to move on.

Drinking blue tit
That there were places that were more suitable for reaching the water didn't matter to this blue tit. If you're thirsty then it's the shortest way to go!

Hanging on
The bearded reedling was a bit too heavy for this reed straw. But with a tight grip it worked out alright.
