Female mallard on a log with plenty of space for the entire duck family
Moving on!
This male common goldeneye probably decided that it was time to continue northward to the breeding grounds.
Golden eye in golden evening light
The evening light in the ponds where this female goldeneye stayed really makes the reed in the background cast a golden hue over the entire scene
Evening light
Swimming in slush
A common winter sight on the coast of Öland, a common goldeneye swimming in slush ice
Winter duck
The female mallard enjoys the sunlight despite a temperature of -17 degrees Celsius.
Winter bather
The male mallard was fully occupied with finding food in the cold water. After a while the water on the back began to freeze to ice, which did not seem to worry him remarkably.
Vigilant
The teal landed close to me as I lay flat on the stomach in the beach vegetation. But it sensed that something was not right and soon took-off again.
Don´t want to swim
The sudden change in weather left the common teal standing in a snowl landscape. The intense wind from the north made it quite clear that swimming was not an attractive option!
Male gadwall on a calm water mirror
The male gadwall looked relaxed. But it was obvious that he followed me and reacted to every move I made, no matter how small.

The male goldeneye swam over the almost mirrorlike open water surface where the background colors were reflected, creating a colorful frame.
Red-breasted merganser showing off

Male goldeneye on an early morning
The male goldeneye and his reflection in the calm water is framed by the golden grass in the background on the early morning.
The morning mist had not yet dissipated and the surface of the water was as smooth as a mirror when the female golden-eye slowly floated across a stretch of open water.
